Weanlings Program
Wheatland Equine LLC includes a vast and open territory with creeks, forests, cows, and fields for young horses to be properly exposed and socialized in a natural and inquisitive environment. This set up allows for confidence building, stimulation, and proper development of both their mind and muscles.
$30 per day
ITEMS INCLUDED: a large run-in shed, automatic waterer, socialization, group integration, grass mix hay, and handling. Basic leading, grooming, and hoof picking/holding.
ITEMS NOT INCLUDED: horse ownership costs such as farrier, annual vaccinations, worming teeth floating, and all vet work.
Handling/Ground Work
Young horses require consistent education and daily handling. Stalling, leading, tying, grooming, bathing, having their hooves picked and held daily, wash stall work, flag work, and intro trailer loading. Proper handling from day one provides understanding and etiquette that becomes second nature and instills the tools needed to succeed later on in their careers as performance horses. When the times comes for starting and backing your young horses will have a clear and concise path forward without fear, frustration, or confusion.
$40 per day
ITEMS INCLUDED: all aforementioned handling, intro trailer loading, grass mix hay, socialization, and turnout/in.
ITEMS NOT INCLUDED: horse ownership costs such as farrier, annual vaccinations, worming, teeth floating, and all vet work.
Starting/Backing
Starting/backing is offered to young horses (horses must be a minimum of 2 years of age) who have completed both and A and B in our program and wish to continue on, or return for further education both on the ground and under saddle. Starting consists of learning to accept a surcingle and bridle as a precursor for long lining. Young horses learn to long line in the arena, open fields, and out on trails where they will be asked to cross streams, ditches, and maneuver through trees. Backing begins when Sarah feels the horses are confident with long lining and are able to engage with the next piece of curriculum without stress or fear.
$60 per day
ITEMS INCLUDED: All training, grass mix hay, supplemental grain, turnout/in, stall, bedding, and blanketing (as needed)
ITEMS NOT INCLUDED: horse ownership costs such as farrier, annual vaccinations, worming, teeth floating, all vet work. blankets, fly masks, etc.
